like this, but not as ugly
I knew I shouldn’t have said anything. Here is a picture of Cate Blanchett, taken from Jezebel wearing a granny square dress by Australian label Romance Was Born. Apparently, there is a warm wooly wind blowing across the land.
Anyway. I am all over this granny square action. I was planning on printing it on silk for fall 2010, but I guess a person could just go ahead and do this, too. I wouldn’t, but a person could.
Did I mention that I heard back from the fabric printing company and it costs $80/meter to print the fabric? So that’s not happening! I guess it’s time to start silk screening again.
I had a dream about 6 months ago where I was in a room in Paris overlooking a streetscape, and there were cool looking chicks wearing boots made of these afghans. If you build it, they will come.
p.s. When I say that the dress is ugly, I don’t mean to be rude. But, if that dress was meant to be taken seriously, it could have been bettter. I think a more complex silhouette and an element of restraint would offset the wacky fabric. I am actually in awe with Romance Was Born. They are unabashedly creative, and fun, and good.
