would the real Finninja please stand up?

So the Butikofer Matriarchs have returned from their time in Finland. They searched high and low for a Laplander bonnet for Loenne and I, but I guess they are hard to find outside of Lapland, which is in the far northern part of Finland.

Did you know that Finland is at the same latitude as the Northwest Territories? I didn’t realize this. The Butikofer Matriarch experienced only 45 minutes of night while they were there. Lucky! One summer when the kids are big I hope Dom and I get a chance to drive on up to the Yukon to check that out.

Anyway, no Laplander bonnet- but my Auntie Arlene did pick this up for Loenne-

She loves it. Right before I took this picture I told her that she was going to have to take it off, which is why she looks so mad.  Apparently these little Finninjas (not their real name) are all the rage with babies in Finland- understandable considering the climate. The similarity between this and the Caninja is . . . what’s the word I’m looking for? REDONKULOUS.
OMG. WTF.
Since Europeans are so advanced in terms of all things progressive, maybe all along I’ve just been way ahead of my time?
I can live with that!
P.S. Six months until winter.

The Finns also eat lutefisk, the world’s grossest food, out of a misguided sense of tradition, so I’m not sure if the phrase “advanced in terms of all things progressive” is the best way to describe them.

Fine then. ‘advanced in terms of most things progressive’ Please excuse the grand sweeping statements that I enjoy tossing around. I was thinking more of ‘progressive’ issues like people’s ideas of consumption, environmental policies, babies headwear, etc. Besides, I think most people would agree that soapy fish jam is delicious.

Excuse me, I have it by authority (actually from a cousin in Finland who is now a fan of this blog that :…”Loenne is so cute but please tell Adrienne that Finns do not eat lutefisk (the 60+ have it at Christmas though), as someone called Auntie Fashion suggested in her comment. It’s the Norwegians, not Finns…” TAF ( That’s a fact)

I knew it couldn’t possibly be true.
